Jim C/Model C bike check!

RideBMX has a really good Sunday Model C 24″ bike check and mini interview with me on their website.  In the interview, I discuss some of the similarities and differences between riding a 20′ and 24″ BMX bike.  Some Model C progress has been made, Odyssey Hazard Lite rims showed up at their warehouse today along with Morning 24.1 forks and 24umph bars.  We won’t be releasing them yet for quality control reasons and we are still waiting on the frame arrivals which should be within a month.  All of these photos were shot while I was California a few weeks ago.  Look for some clips of the Model C in action sometime in the next few days.  Probably sooner once I find a song I like!

Really hope the production frames will come in a 22″ top tube size
And that the chainstays have shrunk some-what
Otherwise i’m gonna have to get saving for a custom standard…
Maybe you could do a ltd run of 22″ 2nd waves – that’d pretty much be a dream come true for me!
    I’m 6ft6 btw..!

….u could call it the Tidal Wave!
& do Tidalumph 9″ bars as well…that would be soooo sweet!

Macneil have done a 22″ frame for years – so there must be a market – in fact they’ve even updated the frame once again for 09.
And i’m pretty sure most riders would rather have a sunday than a macneil seeing as sunday is pretty much the most righteous bike company of the millenium
U could sow that market up like a mofo!
C’mon Jim show some love to us crazy long people
Right, enough whinging – i’m off to bed to dream of Tidal Waves and massive bars!

    Hi Jim ,
I was wondering what the tyre clearence is gonna be? The 1.95 allready looks kinda tight. It would be cool to have one of those Aitkens 2.25′s in the back too.

The tire clearance is pretty good, I wasn’t really into spending so much for KHE tires and want to try some other stuff out. The Primo tire was the only realistic, cool option. I’ll have Odyssey tires on the bike next week and I’ll post some photos when they are on.

Ok, I can see the 22″ top tube for taller people, but please understand that this is almost a whole different and unproven direction for BMX cruisers. In the past we were getting all sorts of requests for top tubes well over 22 which from my experience on the bike seemed ridiculous. As for the short rear end, please remember that the scaled bottom bracket height compared to a 20″BMX makes a huge difference. My friend who races cruisers frowned when I told him about the bb height and the rear end length. I put him on the bike and he immediately understood how the bb height affects things. The lower the bb the bike is more stable, but less maneuverable. Raise it and the two reverse themselves.

The bike is looking good. I really can’t wait to get my hands on one. Any idea what the cost is going to be?

Fair play on the high BB, but surely if the frame had both a high BB AND short chainstays the bike would be even more agile and ride more like a 20 – which would mean less adjustment when switching between wheel sizes.
As far as the toptube length goes – why not do a 21″ (which i remember was your preference on the original prototype) and a 22″ – rather than 21.25″ & 21.75″ – as i reckon that would cater to a larger demographic of shapes, sizes and uses. Ideally 21″, 21.5″ & 22″ would keep everyone happy…just my 2 cents…
BTW – why no wave down tube?
Also; willl the frame and forks come with a lifetime warranty
Finally – try and persuade George to do some 24″ ribcages…
p.s. Do you reckon a 22″ twenty (2nd wave) may ever be on the cards?

Shh dont tell anyone but Odyssey = Sunday :) think ODY has some clothing and bags and such?

Anyway I think these cruisers should be some of the better ones on the market! Its hard to believe a cruiser is going to be as manuverable as a 20″ though, even if the geometry is right, the wheels play a role on manuverability. Cool yes, but nothing can really replace a 20″ bike thats why they are so popular compared to cruisers.

thanx, im gonna be picking up one of those bags

    hey jim-

looks awesome… but am i missing something? i can’t find any detailed specs, like what size is the BB? what size are the rear drops? can i run a gyro on it?

just trying to figure out how to outfit it.

can’t wait to get mine together!

    take care-
