More Model-C questions and random photos!
10.14.08

Okay, here is a few more random photos that I just found from the weekend I built up my Model-C. It was fun just dorking around on it and it was even more fun when you realized everything was possible on it. Just a few more questions.
1) If you had to choose 2 top tube lengths to offer which ones would it be?
2) From the sounds of it, you guys aren’t interested in a 21″, would this be correct thought?
Please leave all the answers in the comments section! Thanks again!

i think a 21.25 would be better.
Georgehey could you make this frame into a sjngle speed dirt jumper
Anonymousi think a 21.25 and 21.75 would be best
Anonymous22″ and 22.5″ TT lengths
the whole bike just looks amazing.
Anonymousa black frame and parts 21.5
Anonymousa 26″ version also.
that could pull in the fixey guys also.
giving a little more bike and a lot more fun.
because at the end of the day everyone, no matter what type of bike, wants to do skids and pop-a-wheels.
bob
AnonymousI’m thinking 21.75 up to whatever you guys think. might as well please as many people as possible. also, i know this is a stretch, but what if you were to make the frame with the TT and Back end flow straight, like the dirt jumper frames. gives it more of a laid back street style. and by the size of it compared to you it looks pretty sweat. hell ya i’d buy one. Oh and different color ways.
thanks
Hiram C1) 21″ and 22″ (a stretch between the two, but seems like a good compromise). any longer and i’d think it would start to feel like a ship.
2) i’d be all over a 21. sounds perfect. hoping there will be a 21…
the green is sweet… but really, color isn’t a deciding factor on what bike to buy, for me. barbi pink with tassels on the bars? eff it, if the geometry feels right, i’ll rock it.
meI know you said 2 but…
21.25, 21.75 & 22.25
If it has to be 2, i guess 21.25 & 22.25 would cater to the greatest array of tastes.
I think at least one size should be 22 or more to cater for the tall guys with big feet this bike is obviously going to appeal to.
21 for those under 6ft and 22 for those over 6ft, or maybe 21 for those under 30 and 22 for those over!!! Gotta take bad backs into consideration!
Hopefully if the first lot sell well you can offer a wider variety like with the 20s, but to start with i would say go with the 2 extreme ends of the spectrum
cheers for the update/pics and for giving us riders a say
adrian21.5 & 22.5
Anonymouslooks so much fun, i'd need 22+ though…
any word on the stays, wave and seatube length…
so hyped!
how about the intergrated chain tensioners and removeable brake mounts (or brakeless option…)
21.9 & 22.3
MarkI'd actually consider buying one of each, 21.9 brakeless for street/park nibbling/abuse and 22.3 for trails, big jumps, commuting and of course cruising!
Please lose an inch off the rear end though…
I doubt Ill be able to buy one, but a 22.5 would be worth it, However Id be more interested in chrome wombolts.
Also does this frame pave the way for a sunday street mtb?
Marshget a few different sizes built then take them to a skatepark and let people see which ones they prefer the feel of. most bmx riders will be taking stabs in the dark with tt sizing on a 24″ bike, plus with the higher bb its not going to be exactly comparable with the feel of a 24″ mtb
bigbeni like the feel of the 22.2 on my bike so maybe a top tube length similar to that ?
also shorter chain-stays would be nice and a brakeless option
Anonymous21.5 for a smaller size, shorter dudes.
22.5 for the larger, for taller dudes / people like me with a bad back.
I will buy one for sure for local getting aroundness if one comes out in at least 22.5
Anonymousfrom the sounds of it the 21 sounds a little short, I think starting with a 21.5 and a 22 would be good, i think more than .5 may be too big of a gap
Anonymous22.5
please dont make cruiser geometry! i wont buy it as cruisers are wack, but make it so it cud take a low suspension fork (60mm) and 3 inch rise bars and i wud defo purchase
swede“Also does this frame pave the way for a sunday street mtb?”
i fucking hope not, mountain bikes are for mountains and are plain impractical for streets.
street mtbing is a more expensive and less practical and progressive version of bmx.
i’d say a 21.5 and 22.5
G-moneyI’d prefer a 21″ as well, seems perfect. There are already plenty of 24s out there in larger sizes.
Anonymous22 all the way
AnonymousI’m 6’1″ and have a 21.5TT on my 24″ BMX now. It’s not too short, but it’s not agile enough to spin easily either (not just because of the TT length, but that’s part of the problem).
For a “freestyle” cruiser, I’d want it shorter, or the same with steeper HT and higher BB. 22″ is way too long.
Don’t cave on this. You’ve ridden it. You know it’s good.
Anonymousso i guess this is my question. judging by the pictures, you are wanting this bike to be more of a free-ride bike. like the mountain bikers trying to ride big wheeled bikes like bmxers (not hating).
question is…are you trying to make a bike for bmxers to cruise to the store on? or are you trying to cross over to the free-ride community? if that is the case i would not ask bmxers what they want out of this frame. i would go to the mtb forums.
bp21.75 & 22.25
tobyshorter stays buy keep it BMX
Longer tt is definately more applealing as the whole reason i wanna ride 24 is cos i feel too cramped on a twenty, but do NOT want a mtb – the clues in the word "mountain"
I ride street & park not mountains.
hope you do a black colour…
Will definately buy one if theres a 22" tt
“question is…are you trying to make a bike for bmxers to cruise to the store on? or are you trying to cross over to the free-ride community?”
How about just making a legit freestyle orientated 24 – you do not need suss forks or slack head angles for street/park/trails.
tobyp.s. Love the afro!
toby22.5 TT.
14.XX chainstays.
I’ll pre-order that.
LocalRedHeadIdeally 21, 21.5, 22 & 22.5
But if only 2 – 21.25 & 22.25
This is obviosly not intended as anything like a mtb or mtbmx (which IMO are the most confused bikes ever! It's like they can't take the plunge and be proper big BMXes so they settle for HUGE gaps between tyre and fork and downright odd looks)
If you ride a rigid, singlespeed, 24wheeled "mtb" with 1 or no brakes – it's not really a fuckin mtb is it. This is exactly why we need a bike like the model C mtbmxes are getting ever closer to this – a company like Sunday needs to step up and say "For fucks sake lets do this properly" and make a XXL BMX – stop fucking about with all this wishy washy slack angled, lowBB bullshit.
We need a proper 24 with proper 24 forks and BMX geo – cept bigger.
Also people need to get over all this cruiser bashing and put function b4 bloody fashion
Anonymousone 21+ and one 22+
personally i’d want a 22.5, but will buy anything 22+
Really looking forward to getting one of these, finally someones doing it!
however cos of my height i’ll have to leave it if theres nothing over 22
Also just wanted to say;
I care nothing for wheel size – they all have their merits, but…if you ride suss and discs on park, street and trails – your an idiot – leave our shit alone. A place for everthing and everything in it’s place…
sorry, but i had to get it off my chest
AnonymousLocalRedHead said…
“22.5 TT.

Ditto.
AnonymousI’d like to see a 21 and a 21.5 version. Chain stay length and BB sound PERFECT!! Please don’t change those.
Jason21.5 and 22
Anonymous1) 20.75, and 21.25
rich2)personally no, i would ride a 21.25 and if only 2 fame sizes were available then id rather see a smaller frame size to go with the 21.25
You should make it a mountain bike frame!
Anonymous26″ would be amazing for a commuter. 24″ is great too.
21″ top tube for the 24″ please!
Anonymous21 and 22 sounds like a good compromise that would please the most people,
but if you could do 21,21.5,22 & 22.5 that would cater 4 pretty much everyone
put me down for a 22+
ianalso can we pleaaassse have shorter stays and a brakeless option – make it hardcore!
ian1) 21.75 & 22.25
2) Not interested in 21 or anything under 22 really, athough it looks so nice and sounds sooo good – really hope u make a 22
p.s. sub 15" chainstays would seal the deal for me
henry– also i'd love a wave dt and black colour and brakeless options
I ride a 21.5" 20wheeler & 22.5 26wheeler for freestyle, ergo; for me i want a 24 to be between these, thus:
21.75 & 22.25 are my choices and from past experience i'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go back to a 21!
In my experience longer toptubes don't alter the handling of a bike drastically – they just make riding more comfortable and therefore allow me to ride for longer, harder with less pain the following day.
I also find my movement feels less restricted with a longer tt, meaning i feel more fluid/stylish and my movements more explosive as i have better leverage and feel less constricted. Haven't really explained that too well but suffice to say that in my opinion longer tts feel gr8!!!
Also i know it's shear vanity but i don't like the thought of looking too big for a bike, if i feel like i look ridiculous on a bike i feel self-conscious and un-stylish and that obviously affects how much fun i have.
I'm 5'11" BTW (average height), can't imagine what it must be like being say 6'4" & trying to find an ergonomically practical freestyle bike…and theres alot of tall riders out there…
Thanks for asking Jim!
dan meron1 – 21.5 and 22.5
2 – already have a 21.25 BMX
It seems silly to me to give a big wheeled bike the same length toptube as 90% of modern 20 frames, and in fact shorter than alot.
AnonymousIn terms of dimensions cruisers should start where 20′s stop, i know of 3 22″(macneil deuce deuce, dk r/t, urie dog)20 frames and 3 21.5″ 20 frames (mutiny vape, fit lurch, subrosa09) and god knows how many 21.25s
(and if your less than 6ft just stick with a 20 if u wanna keep a short wheelbase, let us tall guys have our bikes – we’re seriously badly catered for in the freestyle world)
theres no way i’d wanna ride 24″ wheels with less than 22″ up front – and I really do wanna ride 24s – especially with the high bb and tight head angle
cheer for giving us some input jim
21.5 and 22.5
Short stays!
I don’t care about the mtb or mtbmx being like bmx non-sense. I have a 20 and I have an xc mountain bike. I would like a decent 24″ cruiser too. There isn’t a decent one yet, I hope you will have the first. Put me on the list if it works out!
Anonymous21″ please.
AnonymousI think 21, 22 and 22.5 would be good sizes. I rode a Redline Proline for a while and it had a 21.8 tt. I am 6′ 2″ and it felt really good with a regular stem and 8″ bars. The back end was too long for my liking though.
So 21.8 tt and 14.25 to 14.75 backend would be my choice.
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. Good luck with the frame.
J
James21.75 and 22.5 would be the best. laid back more would be the icing on the cake.
Hiram Cshorter stays!
21.50 and 22.25. I could ride a 22 or a 22.5, but I’d prefer 22.25.
But seriously, these frames are going to be built up custom by fussy dudes with ok-sized wallets: in the long run .25″ increments from 21 to 23 will probably be the demand.
i ride brakes.
cheers from Brooklyn
Anonymous21.5 & 22.5
tomride a custom solid aa with 22" toptube so i'd want my cruiser to be longer.
21.5 for all the shorter dudes
also i definately think shorter stays (at least 14.75) are a must, it seems a bit halfhearted to give it such a high bb which must liven the handle dramatically and then give it typical cruiser stays.
At least build a prototype with really short stays and see how it feels…
Other than that i love it and as long as it comes in a 22+ size i'll definately be purchasing
21.75 and 22.5 get my vote
georgeas do the 14″ stays
Personally i'd want a toptube of 22 inchs or more, 22.3 sounds pretty perfect, not at all interested in a 21 but would of thought shorter guys would be (i'm 6'2 BTW) so if you can only make 2 it's got to be one at each end of the spectrum
will21.3 & 22.3, but really i reckon 3 sizes would suit more people
21.3, 21.9 & 22.3
Cant wait to buy the finished frame, really hoping this will make cruisers cool again
my first bike was a haro cruiser and i have gr8 memorys of being able to use it for everything and therefore have soo much fun. currently got a 20 (fit hawk with a 21.25tt – too cramped) and a 26 evil DOC (23"tt – too long but only just) but if a decent 24 came on the market i reckon i'll sell those 2 and use my 24 for everthing
ahhh the nostalgia
If i had the money to get one of these (one thy hit the local shops), i would want any top tube size between 21″ and 22.75″.
Colours would be black, white or fluro a ross colours (i know they are not a part of the topic but still).
As far as i’m concerned, cruisers were made for taller riders who thought that the traditional bmx with a massive top tube felt more like a trails frame rather than anything else – pay more attention to the taller riders because there are a lot of them out there that “feel alone in the top tube world below 21″.
if all else fails then you could have the frame geometry custom made to the customers standard and hire some guy to make them by hand.
AnonymousIt would cost a fair bit more but it’s worth it in the long run eh?
being 6'6 i defenately need at least 22 inches up front; so a 22.5 for us giants, a 21.9 for the average size folk (between 5'10 – 6'2) and a 21.25 for you guys less than 5'10, but to be honest if your less than 5'10 theres really not much point in riding a cruiser anyway – for tricks and jumping at least, and if you literally do just want a cruising bike then the extra room will be nice and comfy!
personally i want a freestyle bike that fits my stature like a 21tt 20 does an average sized guy – theres currently nothing available that fits the bill! really exited bout the model-c tho, fingers crossed!
theres a plethora of 20 wheeled frames for u shorter fellas, thus my two sizes would be:
21.9 & 22.5
i really do think that you need at least 3 sizes to cater to everyone though…
lance21.5″ and 22.25″ toptubes
and i know u didn’t ask but…
my 2 cents…
14.25″ slammed rear end length
75 degree head-tube
71 degree seat-tube
13.5″ bottom bracket height
Wave down-tube
brakeless options or removable mounts
intergrated chain tensioners
olive, black magic or aaron ross fluro red
sub 6lb frame, sub 3lb fork (25mm offset on the fork BTW)
most important of all……
……LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!
p.s. tell george french 24″ ribcages would be sooooo hot!
cheers for getting behind this jim, keep up the good work – sunday rules!
Anonymousi think a 21.25 and a 22.25, i know an inch is a big jump but having read the comments it seems people either want it real short or real long, anyway theres loads of 21.5 cruisers about
ed21.25 keeps the dimensions of a big bmx and 22.25 one-ups the largest twenty frames for all the lanky peeps! or just those wanting a bit more room….like me!
You should change the name from MODLE C to SUNDAY 24-7 AS in 24" size & hours in a day. 7 as in day in a week.
strappy1) 21.5" & 22.5" Top tubes
Keep it set up for street only bigger.
AnonymousI’ve been waiting for this bike for years. Hurry up and make ‘em!
Burd21.75 & 22.5
not at all interested in a 21
hope that helps
would really like shorter stays and a wave dt too
limitlesslove the photos jim, cheers for the update – nice to see the double peg & hang 5, kudos 4 the high bb, just give it some nice tight stays and make the handling really snappy!
Anonymousas far as sizes go i'd def only be interested in something over 21.7, currently got a haro backtrail24 which has this length of tt and i def want more, 22 or 22.25 sounds good
also i wondered what the offset on the forks is gonna be, i recently got some primo strands for my 20 (mutiny eden 21.25) which have a real short 13mm offset and i love em, totally transformed the front end feel – super lively and easy to hang 5, i hope the 24 forks are no more than 25mm…
can't wait to have big-wheeler i can actually do tricks on, hope it all pans out
21.75 and 22.5
Anonymous21 is too short for a bike with 24″ wheels IMO,
been considering a cruiser for a while as a basic runaround, but would be cool to have one i could ride seriously as well
be cool if you made one as far away from the stereo typical cruiser geo as possible ie, make the handling as close to being like a 20 as possible cept with more room
i’m only 5’7 but for sure want 21.75 tt on a cruiser (already got a 21tt on my bmx, i’ve tried a 21.5 cruiser and was pretty good but could go 4 even more), 22.5 for all u nba hopefuls – would of thought a decent handling cruiser would be perfect for all u josh harringtons, etc – probaly look like a normal bmx!!!
22 toptube is good for me on a twenty, so at least 22.3 for my cruiser….which i'll hopefully be getting next year, god willing!
cantwait4cruiser!can't wait 4 another update!
i say
22.3 & 21.5
& sub 15" stays
& wave down-tube
& shorter seat-tube/sloped tt
& black magic/brakeless options
& small fork offset, sub 30mm
check the new khe one – that looks nic cept for the too short tt, and crazy long stays, but the sloped tierra style frame looks really modern & freestyle, which is what i'm after
can'twaitfor24!21.9 & 22.5
goldenoldielove it!
Hey Jim,
alexCan’t wait to get one of these, there just what i’ve been waiting for by the sounds of it.
As far as sizing goes put me down for a 22.5″ toptube, and perhaps offer a 21.5″ toptube for shorter guys, although i believe you mentioned 21 was good for you – so maybe do that too.
Personally being 6’4 with size 14 feet – i’m not interested in anything less than 22 on a cruiser, hence why i have yet to buy one (and these 24mtbs don’t make any sense geometrically to me either – for street/park/trails use at least) really hope sunday saves me from having to go down the cuctom route.
BTW – what i’m after is a legitimate, modern freestyle orientated 24″ wheeled BMX not an old skool race “cruiser” or fashion accessory…
…ergo; i think shorter stays and seat-tube are a must – for greater agility and easier trick pullery!
alex21, 21.5 & 22
Anonymousnot interested in 21 but seems others are, need at least 3 sizes
i'd buy a 22
I reckon you should make 2 seperate 24" frames:
An old-skoolish trails/cruising classic
&
A modern "new wave" street/park XL-BMX
Old-kool klassic:
21.75" & 22.75" tt
14.75" cs(slammed)
74 degree headtube
71 degree seattube
No wave downtube
chainstay brakemounts
12" seattube
12.75" bottom bracket
olive and silver
35mm offset forks
Newave street Bruiser:
21.25" & 22.25" tt
14.25" cs (slammed)
75 degree headtube
71 degree seattube
wave downtube
removeable seatstay mounts
9" seattube
13.25" bottom bracket
Aaron Ross red & Post-it note yellow
24mm offset forks
just an idea….
kieranThe big question: Will Odyssey be making the 7KAs in a 24?
Whaddup?
M. E. Davisi want 24 ribcages…
mattyLlike the idea of a "street bruiser" also; make it as far removed from the typical cruiser as poss, ie: super short stays/seatube, high bb, steep headtube, brakeless option and a decent range of toptubes; 21.25, 21.75 & 22.25
not interested in a 21 – far too short IMO
WOW !
marcus from franceThese are great! I'd definately buy one.
hope i'm not too late to offer some input….
As far as sizes go i'd be thinking it terms of an inch longer than the 20's, so if you could only offer 2 sizes of twenty inch frame what would you do? + an inch – if that makes sense!
for me a 22.25 would be ideal as i currently ride a 21.25 BMX
sooo my vote of sizes would be 21.5 & 22.25
wouldn't buy a 21 as it'd be too cramped
also i'd love to try a 24 with the high bb AND super short 14" stays like alot of the modern DJ mtbs have – would definately sperate the sunday from all the other 24 bikes out there
can't wait to hear more, keep up the good work!
found this on sprfls, thought it might be of interest…
"Sort of lost in the shuffle lately was the Sunday Model-C.
Cruisers have always been the proverbial red-headed stepchild of the BMX world—most people either go 20" or urban MTB—mostly because there's never been a real effort to produce a true street cruiser. There was the Nyquist Backtrail, I suppose, and Standard technically offered a 24" TRLS-250, although I've never seen one. Bontrager offered a pretty tough chromoly cruiser as well. And both Standard and S&M have always made race cruisers that could serve double duty. (If you want deeper cruiser history, try this from 2001.)
But the Sunday is something different. Different angles and what I assume to be a very different feel. Judging from the photos and words on the Sunday site (except this one which is obviously faked), the Model-C is intended to just be a bigger BMX brother. And with Odyssey making 24" Hazard Lites and Sunday making cruiser forks (and taller-than-most cruiser bars), there are finally legit options for the big-but-not-quite-that-big-wheel crowd.
The funny thing is, I recently sold my cruiser. I had an old S&M Widowmaker that was mostly gathering dust—so little time, so many bikes. But it wasn't just that. The geometry was just plain wrong. Switching from the 20" to the 24" meant leaning way further back for manuals and pulling up that much harder to hop. Low bars and a low bottom bracket and long chainstays made for comfortable cruising and stable sprinting, but that was about it. (I won't even get into the shafted stem and crookedly welded rear triangle.)
Long story short is, I'm pretty excited about the Model-C. It makes a lot more sense to me than something like the Deuce-Deuce for the height-unchallenged set. Now all Sunday has to do is assemble a mighty team of sky-scraping riders (Neil Harrington? Gary Ellis? Catfish?) to put them through their paces. Or I guess they could just send me one.* I may only be six feet, but I ride much, much taller.**"
like the idea of the super tall team…LOL!
marcus21.75 & 22.5
no 21 for me
hope you do these…..
Anonymoushey jim,
Giohope i'm not too late to give my 2 cents, been meaning to check these out – look pretty nice, i've been thinking alot about 24 geo recently was thinking of trying to get solid or s&m to make me a 24 specific frame with
22.25" toptube
14" stays (all the way in)
13" bb
9" seattube
75 h/a, 71 s/a
having ridden ALOT of 24 "freestyle" bikes – they all come up short, what's needed is a totally balls out giant BMX and it sounds as if this was the intention with the model-c, really hope u take it a step further and give it more than just a high bb
sizes should be:
21.5, 22.25
21 will be too small for any one over 5.10, with larger than size 10feet(the main market for a bigger bmx is gonna be bigger people)
really hope you save me the trouble of going down the custom route, gonna hold out cos sunday is one of my favorite brands…
ciao!!!
21.25, 21.5 are fairly common cruiser sizes. My S&M RV cruiser handles the ramp parks and dirt ramps just fine. No feeble grinds on that bike though. Who does grinds anyways?
Anonymous21.5, 22, 22.5 TT lengths! Please make one with a freewheel option
Not everyone likes cassettes and saves on cost. Full cromo no High ten. crap. Adjustability on the dropouts instead of micros. 14.25 chainstay on the short side. The cruiser market seems to just not be there anymore. Ryanzlx@aol.com
Anonymous21.25tt/Frame and Fork option PLEASE!
Anonymousid like to see a 21.5 and a 22
john mccabe21.6 and 22.3(personally won’t buy anything under 22)
Anonymousplease shorten the rear end also; as there are no cruisers with nice short chainstays, 24djmtbs have got them down to 14.25….surely a freestyle cruiser should go at least that short…..
i think 21 and 22 tt, but deff a shorter back end.
AnonymousAre those tires going to be for sale? if so when and how much?? i am very interested in getting a pair or 2 of those.
Jamie
