  • see – if ya did a 21.5″ or god forbid even a 22″ (shock, horror!) the poor tall lad wouldn’t have to have his bars forward like that.
C’mon Jim give us lanky types a proper sized kids bike! Then we can rock bars inline and fit in with all the cool kids, on secound thought fuck it i’d rather be a freak and keep some seatpost….

  • nice bike btw!!!

  • I love the bike feels amazing, The reason i run the bars chi-town is for quicker steering, it also feels better cause u can stand up over the bike. Give it a shot don’t be scared to go past the forks. Joe Rich rocks them like that too!!!

  • Hey Jim waht happened to the DVD being out in mid may?? Any delay?? Help!

    Ed
  • Nice.. Those bars arent “that” out there. How do those bars compare to lumberjacks? About the same size or are the lumberjacks still larger? Trails look pretty good to. How tall is Tom Arkus?

    Ryan B.
  • Hell yeah

    Sean Zubek
  • Too be fair i do actually rock a 22″tt and chicagoed bars so i’m a fine one to talk i just really really really REALLY want a 22″ sunday!
And ifi had a 22″ sunday i’d sttill ride the bars forward…….
How tall is Tom Arkus btw – i saw that Vinyl dvd and he looks almost as tall as me – sick vid btw

  • I am 6′3. As tall as mr. doyle standing back to back.

    Tom Arkus
  • Hey the video is shipping to the distros next week! I wish I could make something super long for you guys. Frames seem like they are getting longer, but that might be due to the top tubes being more sloped. Thoughts?

  • Toby – best to fight for a 21.5 TT sunday frame first I doubt JimC would spring to join the 22″ TT club frame making group! You must be like 6′5 wanting a 22″ TT?

Mr. Arkus – Man exactly my height category 6′3.. doesnt Doyle ride a 21.5?? The giants on little bikes club is growing! Kinda makes me want a 21.25 Mod D Sunday! though.

    Ryan B.
  • Whoops forgot about Mr. Ross, Mr. Foster, and im sure many others out there im missing! in the 6′3 range lol… Anyone need more room?!?! or a bigger bike? I wont ride a MTN bike.. 26″ wheels arent appealing, theres some large MTN bike frames. I thought of a cruiser as well but nah, Something about a 20″r even though us tall guys should be on a larger bike? lol

Jimc – Yeah thats another dislike I have, these newer frames have super short standover, er the seattubes are alot shorter than past frames which makes the frame all in all seem lower which isnt that desireable to a taller rider I dont believe. Even though it makes that top tube out of the way more. Like you say the TT is more angled like a Mtn bike frame or DJ/urban frame then? ewww…..

  • Chris rides a 21.25, his bars are aligned with the forks also. His handle bars are 8inch rise too. So his bike feels smaller then the model D. I used to ride Fly Teirra Granda bars that were 8.25rise which felt great. But the forumph are great also because they feel like 8.25. The specs say they are 8 inch rise but if you run your forks un-cut just ad another spacer to make up for it. You wont even feel the difference. The ride height/stand over, on the Model D is at a sweet spot the way its designed not to high not to low. If that helps anyone… Cheers!

    Tom Arkus
  • i’m 6′6″ Ryan B & feel i sooo much better on a 22″, like you i love twenty inch wheels and it would be pointless for me to own a cruiser unless it was over 22″ long see as i already ride a 22″ 20 frame. Also i love the way i don’t feel so extraoridarily tall riding my 22, when i ride a smaller frame i become soo aware of how stupid i look and how uncomfortable i am

    toby
  • i also rock 8.25″ bars a stack of spacers and a topload stem and my bars are the same height as the bottom of arse – i have to lean over to reach them!!!
How about some 9″ rise bars Jim????

    toby
  • Toby – 6′6 Pffffew! thats a tall guy on a 20″ bike thats for sure lol… You may want to take up basketball? lol J/k Anyway, you know FBM bikes and S&M make custom frames right? If you dont want to ride the Macneil Deuce, which is your best bet on todays market at your size. The Deuce is not that tall from BB to the top of the seatpost tube so that doesnt fit the tall mans frame design I dont think. You need a good 10.5 to 12″ there and most frames today are 8″ or less! Its like they are making them into a trials bike not a BMX bike of the past..

Your in the right for not running your forks cut and your stem slammed. I run spacers and have the stem up as far as possible like you.. only way to go if your over 6′ Eastern makes 9″ rise bars now. Im not so fond of eastern products so I dont really reccomend them. But if you dont mind eastern you may want to check them out or the WTP 8.67 mad max’s! I agree with you though on getting some Sunday! or Odyssey stuff in the larger sizes, as Odyssey and Sunday products are quality stuff compared to others on the market!

  • Dude don’s discuss Macneil and FBM and S&M bikes on a Sunday website! Cmon Dude, i know we are discussing frames but go do your stuff in a chat room.

    Ed
  • Totally agree with that seattube comment – makes my deuce deuce look like a scooter – being so long and short.
I know there are custom alternatives to the deuce but i’m just really into sunday as a company and have had really good experiences with 41thermal products – i reckon sundays frame are the best currently available and am desperate for jim to make one that fits me!!!
Fat chance i know, seeing as i’m in a very small minority of people over 6′3 but thought if i keep nagging u never know…………it seemed to work with the 20″ toptube request……!

  • The true measuring stick for a bike is rider area. The bike is controlled from bb to to of headtube. Having a longer top tube will increase the cockpit but this only affects the rider when seated. The area will be extended but he will have to still reach down to maneuver the controls(bars, stem). By increasing the seat tube angle you increase the distance from bb to head tube, this coupled with changes in bb height will affect the rider area. The only other way to combat the cramped feeling taller riders have is to have a rise stem like the Profile Push and having 4 degree or more upsweep bars with less backsweep. 12 degrees is too much for most taller guys esp. when they wish to run bars aligned with forks like Toby. If you wish to run them forward, less sweep will still allow you to get your longer arms more behind the bars.

Each degree in angle is about equal to 1 cm. So, a frame with a seat tube of 72.5 vs 71 while still having a 21 inch top tube, will have more than an extra half an inch in rider area, that is significant. Same goes for bars, by lessening the degree of backsweep you increase how much of your arm you can get behind the bars allow more control as you can increase your rom(range of motion) proportionate to your length.

For example a DK R/T has a 72.5 seat tube. A 22″ DK R/T will have a larger rider area than a Deuce Deuce or even the Stereo Eagle.

If Standard will bring back or someone else make this stem
    http://www.23mag.com/com/standard/standard.htm

then tall guys can run this for extra rise.

Basically, as frame top tube increases for taller guys, the seat tube angle should increase for more rider area. In addition to standover. As far as bb height is concerned, I honestly am unsure of how that would factor in, ask George, he would have a brainer way of explaining it.

I too would love to run a Sunday but would not fit one.
