Ian's bike on BMXonline!

Okay, Ian Schwartz's frame was described in the previous update, so go down there and check out Ian's frame in detail. Then from there go to BMXonline and see his complete ride and some close up photos that Jeff Z shot. Ian's been staying in New Jersey for awhile now, so I think all these photos were taken there recently.

Ian Schwartz frame!

Here you go, Ian Schwartz's Sunday frame which is going to be available sometime this coming early next year. Ian's frame is exactly the same as the upcoming Second Wave frame, but Ian wanted to have a Pivotal Post welded on. Prior to this frame he took off his seat post clamp and JB Welded a post in. Then he shaved down the seat tube to make it look smooth.

Each graphic is a die cut sticker with a hand drawn sharpie look done by Ian himself. The downtube has different graphics on each side while the headtube has a pair of bars as a lure for the fish on the downtube. The graphics are very unique and were a hit at Interbike this year.

Let me just answer all the questions I'll be asked in the comments. The rear end is not any shorter than any previous Sunday frame. The headtube angle is 74.5 not 75. It will be offered in White and Black Magic. Even though I already said it above, the frame is exactly the same as the Second Wave frame just with a Pivotal Post welded on. The height of the post is about an inch from the top tube. We will not be able to do custom frames. The sizes available are 20.5, 20.75 and 21 with mountless options being available first thing. There will be white Triumphs and Morning 2.1 forks available for the Ian kit. Oh and shaved headtubes are NOT going to be available on these, we are still testing them. Okay if I didn't answer your question just write it in the comments and I'll answer it.

Josh Betley and My Headache!

Josh Betley
from Arizona is a shredder, go check out him on Vital and BMXonline. Sunday just hooked him up with a Sunday Second wave frame. You can see his complete bike checkout along with a few more photo at Databmx. Also, here is an interview with him again on BMXonline.

Here are two photos of my OTB incident yesterday. Didn't get my hands out and you should've see all the blood pouring out. The hospital visit was so short, I couldn't believe it! Twelve stiches in all, 5 inside and 7 out, and I was on my way home to watch the Sabres get dumped on in the 3rd period. I'm going to make this apart of my Halloween costume somehow.

Team News!

No shaved head tube talk here just some team news. The flyer to the left is for the Red Bull Down and Dirty contest being held Nov 4th in Asbury Park, NJ. Vinnie Sammon, Karl Poynter, Ian Schwartz and myself are all going. The funny thing is we are all on separate teams, so come watch the Sunday team compete against itself. Weird! What else is weird, is that I have no idea what is going on at this contest. Find out in 2 weeks!

Karl Poynter has a bike check over at TheComeUp! Here is the another photo of his bike which I am pretty certain is taken at his shop.

The Sunday population of New Jersey has been on the rise lately. Vinnie Sammon already lives there, but Ian Schwartz and Mike Hoder have been there for 2 weeks visiting. Ian's been staying with Vinnie until the Red Bull contest. Mike's been riding, filming and causing trouble. What else is new right? Speaking of Vinnie, his new signature sprocket shown on the left is available from Animal!

Has anyone else on the east coast had the same beautiful weather Buffalo's been having? It was 86 here early this month! I wasn't here for it because I went down south to ride with Brian Osborne from Beloe Footwear and watch an Atlanta Thrashers game. I also was working on the photo on the right courtesy of Andrew White!

Headtube comparison!

Wow, so now I know how to get a response from you guys. Just put something up that is different...just kidding guys! Sunday wouldn't be Sunday if we didn't do that, right? This is really good, I appreciate hearing from you guys just make it constructive which it mostly was.

I want to clarify something, this is just a prototype that we are testing. It won't be available on frames unless its proven, okay! With that in mind, I want to show you a comparison of the headtube on my bike with a 'shaved' headtube. Notice how the original style looks like it hangs over wile the other style is less bulky looking. There is a definite defined step from the headtube to the fork while the 'shaved' has a smoother step.

What about a direct shot to the bearing? Well which is cheaper to replace, the bearing or a frame. If you dent your headtube there, it won't ever be completely round again. So eliminating the part that will bend sounds logical, right? I understand there is a little personal preference here, but I just wanted to show the headtube styles together. As always please comment.

Black Wave!

At Interbike we had on display the lightest Sunday frame that we have ever done. I dubbed it the Black Magic on one of the web videos, but I just called it the Black Wave above. It weighed in at just over 4.5 lbs or 4lbs 8ozs. Basically this frame is the same as new frame with a few differences.

First, there's NO paint on this frame. The black coating is the rustproof coating that has been on every frame we have offered. From the first frame in 2005 to the Wave last year, the rustproofing has been there. It is the black stuff that's inside the frame tubes and under the paint that makes your frame really difficult to strip. Paint has some weight to it, the frame with paint weights a little over a quarter pound more than the BLACK WAVE/BLACK MAGIC.

The second major feature of this frame is the shaved headtube. The headtube has NOT changed in length or height at all, so your geometry is not different at all. The difference is the upper part of the 'cup' has been removed as shown in the left and center photos above. The 45 degree angles on the headtube are still there, but the upper part has been removed. The headtube shaving ends up revealing the bearings as seen in the photo on the right. This isn't drastic weight savings just helping to eliminate excess material on the frame.

There you go, the inside info on the 'Black Magic/Wave' frame. It will be offer in 20.5, 20.75, 21 and 21.25 along with brake and brakeless options. Ian Schwartz's frame will also come in Black Magic/Wave style. Look for them in February or March, I can't give you and exact date. Next up Ian Schwartz's frame. Leave any questions in the comments and I'll get to them!

Another Ride cover?

Yep, Eric Lichtenberger got the cover of the December Ride US! You might remember Eric's bike checkout in a previous update and if not just scroll down to the middle of September. Eric's 180ing over the wall, below the bar and between the uprights. Looks like he did it pretty casual too because there isn't any marks on his shirt or arm. This marks the 2nd Sunday on a Ride cover in 4 issues. Do you remember Kurt Rasmusson's giant 180 on the September cover?

Here are some photos of Karl Poynter's new shop location. Looks really modern and clean, if you're going by New Castle, IN then stop there. Check out more of his updates here. Also, if you want to see him ride in person and you are in Florida then stop by the BACO Jam at Mesh Skatepark October 26th-28th.

Frame features check out!

Okay, let's get started. This photo shows the two colors that we are offering for next year. Blue with gray stickers and Gray with blue stickers. Real simple and really clean.

We changed the wishbone this year from the traditional style to one that resembles the Odyssey Director fork. This type of wishbone allows us to slim the profile while making this area even stronger.

Next, the chain and seat stays have been tapered from 22mm at the wishbone down to 17mm at the dropouts. The wall thickness will remain constant throughout, so denting will be as limited as possible.

These two photos show the opposite sides of our new slim down dropout shape. The current features of the dropout are its width at 8mm and the fact that it is hollow. This provides a dropout with the same weight as traditional width dropouts, but the strength has been increased by double. For next year we've

added a chain tensioner which is accessed between the stays. Look close at the photos and you can see a hole for the allen screw. It comes out just above center of the axle slot where it will then push on your axle.

The frames weight changed by almost 3/4lb for next year. As you can see the frame weight is 4.71 lbs for the gray painted frame. All the features listed above make a huge difference in the frame's weight. The non-painted frame shown at Interbike weighed even less and I will do an individual post about it later. Now I'm off to the Dirty South to ride!

Just a warning!

video
Last time Mike Hoder was back east the above happened to him. He also ended up filming most of his Facad video part. Well, Mike is on his way to New Jersey on Friday for 3 weeks. Who knows what's going to go down? If I know Mike it's going to be all or nothing and some part of his bike will be broken.

In less painful news, Karl Poynter's shop recently moved to a new location. Karl and his brother have been working super hard on the store, so stop by this Saturday for the grand opening party. Check their website for more info, www.hardcoresportz.com!

Jim's New Bike!

Okay, I just got back from Interbike and had a moment to put my new bike together. I went with a blue 20.5 with brake mounts. I'm using an almost galvanized looking Morning 2.1 fork along with the same color Triumphs cut down to 26 inches. I've stepped up from the Tudor bars and went with the Triumph bars until Vinnie's bar comes out. The video below shows how easy it is to put a Mid BB in a Sunday frame due to the post-weld machining of the bottom bracket that we've always done on our frames. As you can see it takes more time to set up the tool than it does to put the bb in.

Sunday! at Interbike! Part 2

Interbike was a success again this year, check me and Rob-o hanging out. I couldn't be happier with how everything worked out. Minus the new Vinnie Bars that got stolen. Sort of funny I thought, so if you stole them write me anonymously about how you like them. Look for the new stuff available early next year and I'll be posting frame stuff over the next few days.

Karl Poynter made it out to Interbike this year. He's been a traveling man all year from the QBP trip earlier this year in Texas to countless trips down south. Did you know that on a recent trip to Philly, Karl spent 6 hours trying a trick? Talk about patience! Karl and his brother Kyle do a shop in New Castle, IN called Hardcore Sportz. They recently moved and set up a new website, so check that out here. I think you'll like it.

Ian Schwartz is shown here doing an inadvertent bottom bracket installation seminar. He also was showing how to properly deconstruct a seat. Ian's frame with welded on Pivotal Post was a huge hit at the show. It should be available sometime around Christmas or just afterwards. Moments after this photo was taken, Ian gave away his old prototype frame to a kid from Nevada. I'll hopefully have a photo for you, but I wanted to tell you that he made the kids day. He went from a Specialized to a very limited Sunday frame. Not bad!

Kurt Rasmusson hanging out with his good friend Dakota Roche in this photo. Kurt was only able to make it out for one day of the show. He works pretty much full time making cabinets which makes his Left Right video part even more amazing. Look for more from Kurt and maybe a cabinet how to video sometime soon. Check out a funny photo of Kurt riding in Fullerton here.

Non-Interbike Update!

Here is some stuff that is not exactly Interbike related, but there is more to come to stay tuned! Alright one little bit if Interbike week news. Kurt was nominated for NORA cup Best Video Part of the year....and didn't win. It was pretty funny, a lot of people in the crowd called, Conspiracy!

In other Kurt news he has an Autophoto on the Defgrip site. I don't know where he finds time to be a photographer between graduating college, working full time and riding that bmx, but he is god at all of them!

Also on Defgrip is a little Fill in the Blanks with Give D member and Creamsicle Churro shredder Smilin' Steve Kennedy. Check that out too!
